More than a decade after Rutgers football bet on the Cubit father-son combination, one of its Big Ten rivals is doing the same thing.
Illinois promoted Ryan Cubit, the first starting quarterback of the Greg Schiano era at Rutgers, to quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator during the offseason. He joined his father Bill, who is the program’s third-year offensive coordinator.
“It’s been really good so far,” quarterback Wes Lunt said. “He’s played in this offense under his dad and he knows what we’re going through every day in practice and in games. He is really good at relating to the players and he brings a fun element.
