Two weeks after a report surfaced that Greg Schiano had reached out to NFL teams in his support of Ray Rice, the former Rutgers football coach explained why in a lengthy interview with ESPN on Friday.
Speaking on SportsCenter with anchor Hannah Storm, Schiano — who is now working for ESPN as an NFL and college football analyst — said his former Rutgers football star "made a bad, bad mistake'' in the assault of his now-wife in an elevator of an Atlantic City casino.
But Schiano, 20 months removed from an unsuccessful two-season stint coaching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said he's reached out to NFL teams because he believes Rice deserves a second chance.
