Rutgers downplayed the NCAA's new redshirt rule for the most part prior to the season, and head coach Chris Ash and his staff did not stray from their stance in utilizing it.
Players were able to appear in up to four games this past season and still maintain a year of eligibility if they had not already redshirted. When the new legislation was established, Ash said he didn't plan to put young players into games just because he could - he would only use the rule with players who were ready to contribute in some form.
