Drew Mehinger gets the call to be Rutgers offensive coordinator

With Drew Mehringer at the controls, the Rutgers football offense likely is in for an overhaul.

New Rutgers head coach Chris Ash made his first major hire Sunday by picking Mehringer, a 28-year-old wide receivers coach at Houston under Ash’s good friend Tom Herman, to be his offensive coordinator.

Houston, which went 12-1 in Herman’s first season at the helm, employs a power spread offense and Rutgers fans should expect something similar.

In his only other stop as an OC, Drew Mehringer's #JMU offense put up mind-boggling numbers. https://t.co/3JtNMK54w4 #CHOPNation #RFootball
