Does N.J.'s top wrestling team make money? Peek inside Rutgers' finances and how it compares in Big Ten

The year before Scott Goodale arrived at Rutgers, the university spent $305,331 to fund the wrestling program.

But in order to support a Rutgers wrestling program that compiled a 12-5 record, ranked No. 12 in the national polls and produced seven National qualifiers (including two All-Americans) in 2016-17, the university spent a record $1.65 million, records obtained by NJ Advance Media show.

An NJ Advance Media review of financial documents throughout the Big Ten revealed Rutgers' spending on wrestling was in line with what other conference schools spent on the sport.
