PISCATAWAY – If the Rutgers women’s basketball team gets left out of the NCAA Tournament next month, it likely will look back on the past four days with a sense of regret.
With the chance to pad a bubble-worthy resume by capitalizing on its very real home-court advantage, Rutgers instead suffered a second straight loss Sunday afternoon as it failed to compete with No. 6 Maryland in a 73-59 defeat at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
The bigger missed opportunity came Thursday, when Rutgers squandered a nine-point fourth-quarter lead and allowed No. 25 Michigan State to complete a comeback necessitated after it missed its first 19 shots of the game.
