Michael Burton wasn’t chosen for a FBS scholarship but he was picked in the NFL Draft.
Five years after spurning multiple FCS scholarships because of his determination to walk on to the Rutgers football team as a fullback, Burton was selected Saturday by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round, with the No. 168 overall pick.
“I received a call right before their pick went in and coach said, ‘I hope you are ready to be a Detroit Lion. We’re taking you with the next pick,'” Burton said. “And I was ecstatic. It was awesome. There’s not a better feeling in the world.
