PISCATAWAY – There is no runner-up consolation prize for Chris Laviano this summer.
As a redshirt freshman, Laviano bounced back from losing the battle to be Rutgers starting quarterback by winning a second competition against the older Mike Bimonte for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.
One year later, Laviano’s expectation is to be named the starter for the Sept. 5 season-opener.
“You have to think that way,” Laviano said Sunday, as players reported for training camp. “I’m trying to prepare for the season. I’ve been working really hard throughout the summer with all the guys.
