PISCATAWAY -- Rutgers and one of its highest-profile athletes reunited Thursday night.
World Cup star Carli Lloyd was back at her alma mater to watch Rutgers women's soccer team face Penn State at Yurcak Field.
Lloyd told NJ Advance Media in October 2016 that her relationship with Rutgers was "not really existent anymore." She was honored at a football game during Tim Pernetti's tenure as athletics director -- which ended in 2013 -- and then fell out of touch.
At the same time, Rutgers athletics director Pat Hobbs made it clear that he wanted to reconnect with Lloyd, who starred for the Scarlet Knights from 2001-05 after growing up in Delran.
