Rutgers redshirt senior 133-pounder Zach DelVecchio had just given up a takedown at the end of the second period against North Carolina freshman and former Blair standout Zach Sherman on Friday night.
Trailing 2-1, DelVecchio had his mind set on cutting Sherman and working on his feet to earn the takedown back.
Two minutes later, DelVecchio had four back points, one riding time point, several thunderous mat returns and and most importantly a come-from-behind 6-2 victory that helped propel 17th-ranked Rutgers over the 24th-ranked Tar Heels, 18-17, on criteria.
"Honestly I was contemplating cutting him and then I saw (head coach Scott) Goodale going crazy in the corner," said DelVecchio.
