As he spoke about his legacy shortly before being inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame, Bob Mulcahy was interrupted by one of the most accomplished Scarlet Knights coaches this century.
“Make sure you tell (the reporter) who your first hire was,’’ said Glenn Crooks, the former Rutgers women’s soccer coach, who won 155 games over 14 seasons and morphed the Scarlet Knights women’s soccer team into a perennial Top 25 program.
Talk to Mulcahy for any length of time and he’ll certainly point to hiring Greg Schiano — the architect of the Rutgers football program’s transformation from laughingstock to perennial bowl-qualifier — as his greatest accomplishment.
