Forget what you've heard about the Rutgers quarterback battle being a four-man race. It's basically a competition between Chris Laviano and Zach Allen at this point because they're the ones apparently handling all of the first-team reps. The BTN crew came away impressed with both QBs, with Dave Revsine concluding "I don't think you could go wrong'' with either.'' Both Howard Griffith and Gerry DiNardo indicated that Allen has the edge based on his familiarity with running a similar spread attack at TCU. Said Griffith: "It's very easy to see who's more comfortable with running the (spread offense) at this particular point, and it looks like Allen is because he's been involved in it.
