Why Is Dos Equis Replacing The Most Interesting Man In The World? Blame Millennials, and The College Football Playoff

The world just got a lot less interesting.

As a general rule beer commercials are stupid, promoting mostly watered-down alcohol to a.) 20-somethings who are drinking it anyway and b.) young children during sporting events. But Dos Equis has always been a little more classy — since 2006, anyway.

That’s when Jonathan Goldsmith, a character actor since the 1960s, began his role as The Most Interesting Man in the World. You know, “he can slam a revolving door,” and “his worst enemies list him as an emergency contact.” On Thursday the company owned by Heineken USA will air its final Dos Equis commercial featuring Goldsmith, planning to replace him with a new Most Interesting Man in the fall.
