Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay told The Sports Business Journal that he isn’t buying the scientific connection between concussions — which is what the medical community calls brain injuries — and brain injuries. Pfff, whaa, gaa, c’mon! As if?!?!?
Irsay went on to compare concussions to aspirin in an analogy premised on the fact that, because very few people experience side effects from one of the safest medications in existence, concussions don’t necessarily cause chronic traumatic encephalopathy (or at least they don’t always cause it). The trouble is, concussions do cause CTE (because science says so) and the National Football League has finally admitted as much, but more importantly, the whole reason people are making concussions a big deal is that the NFL actively suppressed research that connected concussions and their long-term side effects.
