The Washington Nationals have sent a good chunk of their roster to the IL. Washington put multiple starting position players, starting pitchers, and their closer on the injured list with no reason given. Alex Avila, Josh Bell, Patrick Corbin, Yan Gomes, Brad Hand, Josh Harrison, Jon Lester, Jordy Mercer & Kyle Schwarber will all open the season in sickbay.
For those keeping score, that means the Nats will be without their starting catcher, left fielder, second baseman, and first basemen in addition to a few starting pitchers and their stopper. Of course, Washington’s season was delayed because four players on the Nationals tested positive for COVID-19 and seven more were placed under quarantine after contact tracing determined they were potentially exposed.
