A lot of people weren’t happy about the officiating in Monday night’s Carolina-Washington game — a game in which certain players seemed to be officiated differently than others. Case and point: Cam Newton was decked in the head by Trent Murphy while sliding to the ground in the open field. As per NFL rules, “defenders are required to treat a sliding runner as they would a runner who is down by contact,” and of course, Murphy did not treat sliding Cam Newton as a runner who was down by contact, seeing as he nearly took his head off.
A flag was thrown on the play, but not for the hit.
