Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reports that Toronto Bule Jays pitcher Jordan Romano has a mild left ankle sprain.
Jays’ manager Charlie Montoyo revealed that Romano sustained the injury after he slipped while walking his dog. It’s expected that Romano will be ready for Opening Day and will resume his closing role with the Jays in 2022. In 2021, he had 23 saves, a 2.14 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, and 85 strikeouts in 63 innings.
Romano was Toronto’s tenth-round pick, 294 overall, from the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. He missed the entire 2015 season due to undergoing Tommy John Surgery.
