Tough break for James Paxton and the Seattle Mariners as Jon Heyman reports that Tommy John surgery has been recommended for the veteran left-hander.
Paxton was removed from his first start of the season after facing five batters; he appeared to be in pain after throwing a fastball in the second inning. Paxton was a top of the rotation arm for the M’s but will be sidelined for the remainder of the season with an eye on returning at some point during the 2022 season.
The Mariners entered the season with a six-man rotation and will now rely on Nick Margevicius to replace some of Paxton’s innings.
