The Montreal Canadiens have reached a trade with the Buffalo Sabres to acquire center Eric Staal. Montreal will send their third and fifth-round picks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. It looks like the doors have opened to begin Buffalo’s firesale after a disappointing season that started with so much promise. The Sabres are dead-last in the league by an eight-point margin behind any other team and have lost an astonishing 16 games in a row. Like most of the Sabres, Staal has had a fairly disappointing season with just three goals and seven assists in 32 games. Perhaps the most telling stat is his minus 20 rating that will undoubtedly get better leaving Buffalo.
