Whenever a team changes its name it’s always tough finding a perfect match. You want it to be cool, but not too cool. You want it to make sense in today’s lexicon, but it also needs to make sense for future generations. You want it to have some significance (if possible) to the city that the it represents. In general, it’s not easy. The New Orleans Jazz made a ton of sense. The Utah Jazz do not. The Minneapolis Lakers has the obvious connotation. We are pretty confident there are no lakes in Los Angeles. The Vancouver Grizzlies was a natural fit.
