Colin Kaepernick’s show of civil disobedience by sitting out during the playing of the national anthem – to protest the treatment of black people by the police – has prompted a national dialogue about what it means for athletes to peacefully protest.
Apparently Team USA hockey coach John Tortorella missed that memo, because it appears that he thinks sitting out the national anthem is some kind of adoptable fad; like Tebowing or dabbing after a touchdown.
In an interview with ESPN anchor and die hard hockey fan Linda Cohn, coach Tortorella said that any of his players who wanted to show their support for Kaepernick’s cause would do so at the expense of their playing time.
