Officials in San Antonio tell TMZ Sports ... Boykin appeared in court today for a pre-indictment hearing -- when a judge decided to kick the case over to a grand jury.
As we previously reported, Boykin was arrested on Dec. 31st after allegedly attacking bar staff and police officers during a crazy night out at a San Antonio bar ... says before he was set to play in the Alamo Bowl.
Boykin was booked for assaulting a public servant (a 3rd degree felony), public intoxication and resisting arrest.
