South Carolina AD Ray Tanner Calls for Removal of Confederate Flag From State Capitol

South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner has joined the chorus of prominent figures, including SC Governor Nikki Haley, calling for the removal of the Confederate flag from the state capitol.

The flag, technically the battle flag of the Confederacy, has flown on the grounds of the South Carolina capitol since 1962, but is facing increased calls for its removal after nine people were shot and killed at a historically black church in Charleston last week.

It is time to remove the flag. We are ONE !! #CharlestonStrong #Gamecocks

Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier told the Associated Press in 2007 that he was in favor of removing the flag.
