NBA fans are up in arms over the league’s decision to add small sponsor patches to jerseys, but it could be much worse.
According to Russian journalist Artur Petrosyan, Burger King offered soccer club Zenit Saint Petersburg over $7.6 million to change its name to “Zenit Burger King.”
The offer was pretty quickly rejected, with a Game of Thrones GIF.
This sort of thing isn’t even unheard of in American sports. The MLS team in Harrison, N.J., has been called the New York Red Bulls since 2006, but that doesn’t make it any less weird.
