Joe Maddon knows a thing or two about baseball and hasn’t been afraid to push boundaries. He’s pushing the envelope even further Sunday when he puts Shohei Ohtani as the starting pitcher and designated hitter against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday Night Baseball.
Ohtani has been the designated hitter through all three games for the Halos this season, recording one hit, which was a home run, along with three runs and five strikeouts. In previous seasons, the Angels avoided batting Ohtani in the lineup the day before he was scheduled to pitch, but obviously, that is no longer the case.
