In case you didn’t see the Sun Bowl (haha, just kidding. No one saw the Sun Bowl), the Stanford Band wasn’t there. A local El Paso high school band took their place and performed the halftime show.
That’s because the infamous Stanford Band was placed on double-secret probation on Dec. 6, meaning that they’ve been banned from all activities for the remainder of the academic year. This is a rare but not unprecedented move at Stanford, where the administration gives the band incredible leeway with its irreverent, insubordinate antics.
So this was the scene prior to Stanford’s men’s basketball tussle with visiting Arizona on New Year’s Day at Maples Pavilion: The Band has been replaced by a deejay.
