The national soccer team representing the European microstate of San Marino has only ever won one game. One—in 139 tries. But don’t try telling the Sammarinese that they’re a joke.
San Marino was crushed 8–0 by Germany in World Cup qualifying at home on Friday. (The 3,851 attendance figure is more than 10% of the country’s population, by the way.) The Germans thought the whole thing was a farce and didn’t hold back their criticisms.
“I do not understand the meaning of games such as these, more so with such a busy schedule,” star forward Thomas Muller said.
