Winter has passed, summer is coming and still the fate of the next novel in George R. R. Martin’s mega-popular A Song of Ice and Fire series remains as elusive as a Johnny Manziel contract with the NFL. Promises keep being made that it’s going to happen, yet every single piece of evidence available to us tells a vastly different story.
As Deadspin editor Tim Marchman pointed out, the last we heard from Martin regarding any progress made on the next book, The Winds of Winter, came in the form of a blog post in January in which he said what he has said for essentially years now: he has no idea when the book will be done but he has pages.
