MAC referees are supposed to facilitate and uphold #MACtion, not interfere with it, which makes what happened Tuesday night such a shame.
The head referee for Toledo-Central Michigan momentarily halted the game to tell the band and cheerleaders to quiet down, as they were interfering with the snap.
According to the box score, just 13,490 were in attendance, well short of Kelly/Shorts Stadium’s 45,000-seat capacity. The sound from he band and cheerleaders clearly pervaded to the point where the ref felt like he needed to hush them up.
Toledo won, 28-23, probably because the Chippewas didn’t have their spirit groups cheering them on.
