Red Sox Sign Reliever Hirokazu Sawamura

The Red Sox have agreed to terms with Sawamura, who will head to the MLB in 2021 after playing professionally in Japan for the past 10 seasons. The deal is reportedly for two years and $3M, but some options and escalators could increase the value to $7.65M over three years. Boston ranked just 28th in team ERA last season, so they needed to bring in some additions this offseason.

Sawamura has had plenty of success throughout his career in Japan. He pitched to a 2.77 ERA over 352 games, and he pitched to a 1.71 ERA over 22 games with the Chiba Lotte Marines last season.
