John Calipari is not everyone’s speed. He does things his own way, usually to the chagrin of college basketball purists. And if you’re not on board, he doesn’t much care. His player-first approach has created a one-and-done mill in Lexington, where readying his players for the NBA is literally more important to him than winning national titles.
I’m not here to criticize Calipari for saying that because Calipari is a performance artist. He’s not even moonlighting as a performance artist — it’s his primary career. He just happens to coach basketball on the side (nice side work if you can get it).
