NEW YORK — The four major American sports leagues, as well as the MLS and several minor leagues, have collaborated on a new ad campaign they hope will remind fans that sports provide a great distraction from everything that is terrible around them.
“There is a lot of concern about where our country is heading and what it could mean, and a lot of the people who could be impacted are fans of the NBA,” said NBA commissioner Adam Silver. “While there’s very little we as citizens can do to stop any of it, as depressing as that may be, we can still give ourselves a brief bit of distraction by watching amazing athletes dunk, score a goal, throw a touchdown pass or hit a home run.
