Because, live TV.
If there’s anything more nerve-wracking to a young athlete than a TV interview, it’s a live TV interview in front of a large crowd that’s being broadcast over the public address system. That’s where 21-year-old Daria Gavrilova found herself after her 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 third-round victory over 28th-seeded Kristina Mladenovic today at the Australian Open.
Gavrilova, originally from Russia, has been living in Australia for the past three years and is considered a hometown hero at the Aussie Open.
In the interview she was asked about staging her comeback in the third set, and her response delighted the crowd, to say the least.
