The Carolina Panthers have taken the first defensive player in the 2021 NFL Draft, picking cornerback Jaycee Horn with the eighth overall selection. Horn has a good pedigree, as his father, Joe Horn, played 12 seasons in the NFL, infamously celebrating with a cell phone after catching a touchdown pass.

The younger Horn is a three-year starter out of South Carolina who racked up 101 tackles, including 3.0 sacks as an underclassman with the Gamecocks. Horn added two interceptions last season, and six passes defended, bringing his three-year total up to 23.
The Panthers didn’t appear to have a pressing need on the defensive side of the ball.
