Did you ask for a bowl game in Melbourne, Australia? No? Well, you might be getting one anyway.
ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reported on Thursday that a group, which included Melbourne Stadiums Limited CEO Paul Sergeant, met with representatives from the Pac-12 and Mountain West about bringing a bowl to Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium for the 2016 season.
“If it was up to us, we’re good to go for 2016,” Sergeant told McMurphy. “But there are many other moving parts involved. From our perspective we are 100 percent (committed), but we’re only one player in it.”
Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson said “the necessities for a bowl game seem to be in place” including local support and an “appetite for college football.
