According to Ken Rosenthal, the Oakland Athletics have dipped into the free-agent waters by signing two veteran relievers. Sergio Romo was signed to a one-year deal, and Yusmeiro Petit was re-signed, but both deals are pending physicals.
The Athletics led the majors in bullpen ERA at 2.72 last season and are returning most of their pitchers. Petit was particularly effective with a 1.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. He was also second on the team with an ERA+ of 252.
Romo comes to Oakland after a year and a half in Minnesota with the Twins.
