NEW YORK — The New York Yankees ending Alex Rodriguez’s career has impacted the careers of more people than just the longtime slugger. The New York Post laid off all 36 employees in its A-Rod Pun Headline Department, until today the biggest department at the tabloid.
“Obviously, with Alex ending his career here in New York, we don’t need to provide the public with daily A-Rod puns anymore,” said NY Post editor Stephen Lynch. “It’s tough to let the people go who gave us gems like A-Hole, Stray-Rod and more headlines with asterisks in them than any newspaper has ever published before, but this is a business and there isn’t any player on the current Yankees team that is deserving of this level of pun headline coverage.
