Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports that the New York Yankees will use Nick Nelson out of the bullpen as an opener in Friday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Yankees manager Aaron Boone actually shared the news during an on-air interview with the MLB Network.
Nelson came up as a starter in the minor leagues, but he’s only been used out of the pen in the majors.
New York will try to snap their two-game losing streak as they’ve gotten off to a sluggish start this season. They currently trail the division-leading Red Sox by 3.
