In a stunning move, the New York Rangers have waived defenseman Tony DeAngelo.
It was reported that DeAngelo got into a post-game altercation with goaltender Alexander Georgiev following the Rangers 5-4 overtime loss on Saturday. DeAngelo finished that game with a -3 rating and appeared to be screening Georgiev on Sidney Crosby’s game-winning goal. DeAngelo has gotten 83.3% of his zone starts in the offensive end but has only contributed one assist to go along with his -6 rating this season. He finished last season as the top point-getter on the Rangers blue line with 53 points.
DeAngelo was a mainstay on the powerplay unit, Adam Fox could figure to get more ice time on the powerplay, and we could see increased usage from Jacob Trouba.
