Nike has released a new inclusive product, the ‘Nike Pro Hijab.’ The product introduces a porous light-weight single layer fabric that will make the Hijab breathable while remaining opaque. Many female Muslim athletes complain about the difficulty of performance when wearing a traditional hijab. In an effort to make strides to become a more inclusive brand, Nike has decided to help these female athletes improve their performances.
The product took a total of 13 months to design and will be released in Spring 2018. Figure skater Zahra Lahri has already began to wear the Hijab, and said in a statement:
“I was thrilled and a bit emotional to see Nike prototyping a Hijab, I’ve tried so many different hijabs for performance, and … so few of them actually work for me.
