Former NC State big man Chris Washburn was an excellent player when he was suited up for the Wolfpack, but myriad off-court issues derailed a once promising career.
Washburn averaged 19.7 points and 7.9 rebounds a game in two years at NC State, but was usually embroiled in some legal issue, academic issue, or faced questions about his work ethic.
Still, he went third overall to the Warriors in the 1986 draft, a move that proved unwise. In 1989 Washburn was hit with a lifetime ban from the NBA after failing three drug tests in three years.
