Nazem Kadri has elected to appeal the eight-game suspension he received for the illegal check to the head he delivered on Justin Faulk. Unlike the MLB, Kadri cannot return to action pending the outcome of his appeal.

The incident occurred in the third period of the Colorado Avalanche’s Game 3 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Kadri skated across the middle of the ice and contacted Faulk directly in the head with a hit.
The NHL cited Kadri’s “substantial disciplinary history” as part of the rationale for the eight-game suspension. The league was alluding to the six previous suspensions Kadri has received, the last three of which were handed down during the postseason.
