Steven Soderbergh has carved out an interesting niche in the world of film. As the director of multiple Oscar-winning performances in his turn-of-the-millennium films, Erin Brockovich and Traffic, he earned a reputation as a storyteller of both adapted and original screen plays.
He then went on to make the blockbuster trio of Ocean’s 11 remakes, which have become iconic films for the post-Baby Boomer generations. They were the perfect vehicle for bringing the effortless Old Hollywood glamour, swagger and mischievous camaraderie of the original Rat Pack to a 21st century audience that was desperate for guilty-pleasure escapism.
