Buster Olney reports that the MLB plans to enhance its enforcement of foreign-substance rules. The crackdown comes amid increased tension between players, as teams have taken it upon themselves to call out opponents who appear to be using substances to control their pitches better.
According to Olney’s report, MLB owners had a meeting earlier this week. Various items such as baseballs, hats, and gloves were presented, appearing to be covered in various substances. It’s anticipated that pitchers will be randomly checked throughout the game, up to eight to 10 times, to ensure compliance with the rules.
