Ariahara was officially placed on the 10-day IL due to a right middle finger contusion. He started yesterday vs. the Mariners, and he struggled with five earned runs allowed over just 3 2/3 innings. This is his second-straight poor start, as he allowed six runs in his last outing over 2 2/3 innings. Overall, he’s pitched to a dismal 6.59 ERA and 6.56 FIP through his first seven outings, and he’s averaged nearly as many walks per nine innings as strikeouts. That’s not a good formula for success in the major leagues.
The Rangers took a chance on Arihara during the offseason, signing him to a two-year, $6,2M contract.
