Donaldson got off to a great start this season, ripping a double in his first at-bat off Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff, but his day ended shortly after that. He limped into second base with an apparent leg injury, and he did not take the field in the bottom of the first inning. Luis Arraez shifted to third base in his absence, and Jake Cave entered the game in left field.
The severity of the injury is unknown at the moment, but losing Donaldson would be a big blow to the Twins’ offense. He’s not the same MVP-caliber player he was during his prime, but he posted a strong 129 wRC+ with the Twins in 2020.
