Vigorous and vocal homophobia in 2017 is entirely unacceptable. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist, because it most certainly does, but it’s becoming an increasingly stigmatizing belief – so much so that many people who are homophobic are often afraid to even talk about it.
Progress, I guess?
The United States doesn’t have much we can brag in terms of international leadership right now, but we can say that as a nation, we’ve made it harder and harder to actively or successfully campaign against equal rights for the LGBT community. Celebrities don’t get to perpetrate homophobia here without significant national backlash at the very least.
