Former Michigan lineman Elliott Mealer recently opened up for the first time about the compassion former Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel showed in the wake of family tragedy.
Before Mealer came to Michigan he was involved in a car accident in 2007 that killed his father and girlfriend, and left his brother, Brock, paralyzed. Despite losing out on recruiting him, Tressel sent the family flowers.
And when Michigan honored Brock in 2010 by having him come out on the field and touch the “M Club” banner as he was learning to walk again, Tressel sent a hand-written note to Sandy Mealer Barber, Elliott and Brock’s aunt:
