Jordan Bastian reports Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez is out of the lineup Sunday, in a series finale with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Baez left Saturday’s game early due to back tightness, going 1-3 in the 2-3 win against the Pirates Saturday. This season, Baez has appeared in 28 games, with a slash line of .257/.291/.523, hitting eight home runs. With an off day, Monday, it is unclear if Baez will be ready for the series opener against the Cleveland Indians on May 11.
Ildemaro Vargas will slot in for Baez Sunday at shortstop, batting eighth for the Cubs.
