I’m not sure if this was great baserunning, terrible defense, or a combination of both, but Baez did something that may have never been seen in baseball’s long history on Thursday. There was a runner on second with two outs, and Baez hit what should’ve been an inning-ending ground ball to the third baseman.
That’s when hilarity ensued. The throw pulled first baseman Will Craig off the bag, but he still had plenty of time to tag Baez or step on the bag to retire the side. Instead, Baez decided to turn around and head towards home plate, and for some reason, Craig decided to chase him.
